Oracle of the Week - Green Witch Oracle

Whew! The holiday season was a whirlwind of friends, family, food and fun! (like that alliteration?) I’ve been recovering from all of that for the last couple of weeks. I’m not one of those who jumps right into the restart with the turning of the calendar year, so I usually need to step back from the “New Year Resolution” fervor. With winter just starting, I use this time to plan and recover rather than to take action.

Yet, I’m longing for the warmer days, so I went with a familiar stand by for the Oracle of the Week: Green Witch Oracle: Discover Real Secrets of Botanical Magick by Cheralyn Darcey.

Released in 2021, this deck has become a staple oracle deck for many practitioners I know. It’s whimsical and colorful, each card bearing an illustration of a botanical element and an association of that element. For each card, the guidebook includes a relevant quote, the divinatory meanings and correspondences, cultivations tips for the identified plant, and an idea for a magical working involving the subject.

The card pulled for this week was Orange, associated with Energy. Oranges are associated with wealth and luck in many cultures, and the smell of citrus is often very energizing and activating to our brains. The various citrus scents are certainly some of my favorite smells. Give me citrus over chocolate any day!

There’s also an element of perseverance to oranges. It can take some work to peel an orange, to get through the bitter outer rind to the sweet rewards inside.

Two rows of two tarot cards

The tarot cards from the SOL tarot deck that accompanied this pull didn’t feel so positive when I initially took a look at them: High Priestess Reversed, Temperance Reversed and 3 of Swords.

Altogether, it’s telling a tale of blocked intuition, imbalance and heartbreak in the simplest terms. Fortunately, it’s not a reading for a long period of time, so most of these warnings are meant to be taken into account for a day or two at most. It’s possible to shift this heavy energy fairly quickly.

That oracle card at the end is giving me hope, reminding me that the dips aren’t permanent and good times are still within reach if I keep moving forward despite any setbacks that might occur.

Messages like these come across fairly frequently and when it seems like we’re getting them day after day, it can be discouraging.

However, the most important thing to remember is that our days are what we make them. Sure, there are going to be hard times where it feels like your face just keeps getting shoved in the mud over and over again, but those times don’t last.

There’s always some small shift to make that can have a huge impact. It can be as simple as taking a deep breath and shaking out the tension that’s built up.
